CyberAssistant "Kate"

  On May 14th 2007 the Information Technology Department launched a computer-based eligibility notification system called PhoneTree MD.  You may have heard of similar systems before as many Dr.'s offices, and local school systems are using such notification devices. 

  The goal is to make a simple notification to our donors when they are eligible to donate blood.  The call takes about 30 seconds to complete.
 

  We are using a NASA approved TTS (Text to Speech) voice translator affectionately named
 "Kate".    If you stop in to donate blood as a result of being called by Kate, please let the registration person at the Center where you donate know.  We'd love to hear what you think about this system.  You can also send an email to:  webmaster@nfbcblood.org

The Information Technology department uses high tech scanning tools to optically & digitally store paper records.  What used to take up to days to retrieve now takes just a few mouse clicks & a couple of seconds.  Our OSS (Optical Storage System) gained some recognition in the November 2003 Technical Support Magazine.  A PDF Version of the article is available here:
